Being chased

Dreaming about being caught by what was chasing you

What happens if the thing chasing you catches you?

Most chase dreams end before this, which is why so little is written about it. The ones that do not are worth recording carefully, because what people report is rarely what they expect.

The commonest outcomes in reports are: waking at the instant of contact; the pursuer turning out to be something else entirely; the pursuer doing nothing at all; and the scene changing. Actual harm is comparatively rare in the reports, though it does occur.

Being caught is also the resolution people describe after deliberately turning to face a recurring pursuer, which is a technique the nightmare rescripting programme uses, awake, on purpose.

Where this reads well

People who are caught frequently report the fear collapsing rather than peaking. The anticipation was the dream.

Where it is harder

If this recurs and it is genuinely distressing, the rescripting programme is a better use of your time than interpreting it.

Worth asking yourself

What actually happened when it reached me? Was it what I expected?

Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
