Dream. Remember. Understand.

What did you dream about?

Look up the thing you still remember. Every answer here is a written record with its sources on the page, not a guess a machine made up for you.

82 researched records, 189 scenario pages, 415 citations.

The dreams almost everyone has

These turn up at the top of every study of typical dreams, in every population sampled.

Your journal

Write it down before it fades

Most of a dream is gone within about five minutes of waking, and nearly all of it inside ten. That is the whole reason this is the second thing on the page rather than the tenth. Type it rough, in fragments, in the wrong order. You can tidy it later, and you cannot get it back.

FallingFalling is one of the most reported dreams in every population studied. The jolt that often accompanies it, a hypnic jerk, is a well-understood physiological event, and it is frequently the cause of the dream rather than its result.

How this works

No AI interpreter. On purpose.

Most dream sites answer everything instantly by generating text. That is why they are worthless. An answer that is always available is an answer that never depended on knowing anything.

SourcedEvery page shows where its information comes from, and separates research from theory from folklore, per section rather than per page.
Honest about limitsA funeral in a dream does not predict a death. Dreaming about an ex says nothing about what they feel. We say so, on the page.
Yours to keepThe journal is private by default, exportable and deletable. Premium sells analysis, never access to your own dreams.

Somebody else has had your dream

People here post the dream they woke from and what was going on in their life at the time, and others reply with their own version of it. No diagnosing, no certainty, and no interpretation for anyone who asked not to receive one.

Your journal is private by default. Nothing is published unless you choose to share that specific entry.

Common questions

Including the answers people least want to hear.

  • Yes, all of it, including the journal with no monthly cap and the pattern dashboard. There is no paid tier at the moment and nothing asks you for a card. If one is introduced later, the database, both archives, every sleep-science page and all the safety information stay free permanently. That is a rule rather than a launch offer.

  • No. There is no model anywhere on this site. Every meaning and scenario page was written and reviewed by a person, and every number on the pattern dashboard is arithmetic over your own tagged entries. That is the central design decision, not a cost saving. An interpreter that answers everything instantly is an interpreter that never needed to know anything.

  • There is no evidence that it can, and no mechanism by which it could. Apparent hits are explained by base rates and selective memory. You remember the dream that seemed to match and forget the thousands that did not. Several pages here exist specifically to say this, because "dreaming of a funeral means someone will die" frightens people for no reason.

  • It tells you about you, not about them. It is not evidence of what they are thinking, feeling or doing, and it is not a sign that they were thinking of you. Long relationships in particular leave dense memory that keeps being reprocessed for years. A dream about an ex is closer to a filing artefact than to a message.

  • Every page lists its sources at the foot, with a note saying what each one is being cited for. Sections are labelled by what kind of claim they are making: scientifically supported, psychological theory, historical belief or community-reported, so nothing gets mistaken for something better evidenced than it is.

  • Private by default. Entries are visible only to you unless you explicitly share an individual one, and journal pages are noindex and require your session. You can export everything as PDF, JSON or CSV on any plan including free, and deleting your account removes your dreams, sleep logs and comments permanently.

  • No, and the pages say so. Those archives document what people report, held to a standard: several independent reports sharing a meaningful cluster of characteristics. A consistent description across unconnected people is evidence that an experience recurs. It is not evidence that anything external exists. Most of it is better explained by sleep paralysis than by anything shared.

  • The nightmare-rescripting programme is a structured version of imagery rehearsal, which has the best evidence of any nightmare intervention. It is free. But if nightmares are waking you regularly and affecting your days, that is worth a doctor rather than a website. Frequent nightmares are treatable and people wait far too long.

On the channel

Memento Diem, once a day

One episode a day covering all three of our sites: the sky above, the card in front of you, the dream behind you. Everything in it is computed or quoted from a page you can go and read, and it says which on screen.

Today's episode will appear here.
Until then, everything published so far is on the channel.

There are three of these

Tarot, astrology and dreams, all free right now

Memento Somnia is one of three. Same people, same approach, everything written out and sourced rather than generated, pointed at tarot, astrology and dreams in turn.

Nothing here asks for a card.
