Chased across the estate I grew up onThrough the garages and round the back of the flats, the exact route I would actually take. Whatever it was stayed precisely the same distance behind me the whole time, which was worse than it gaining on me. A room I had never seenThere was a door in the hallway of my parents’ house that has never been there. Behind it was a whole room with a window looking out at nothing I recognised. Our old road, except the trees had grown up properlyThe street I lived on until I was fourteen, exactly right, apart from the trees being the size they would actually be now rather than the size they were then.
