Through the garages and round the back of the flats, the exact route I would actually take. Whatever it was stayed precisely the same distance behind me the whole time, which was worse than it gaining on me.

One reading only: the distance staying identical is the part I would sit with. When mine did that it turned out to be less about the thing behind me and more about how long I had been running.
