Being in the wrong body

Dreaming you notice the wrong body through your hands

Why do I notice something is wrong by looking at my hands?

Hands are the commonest way the wrong body is noticed, which is a neat convergence: hands are also what the lucid-dreaming literature says to look at.

The reason is the same in both cases. Hands are what a dreamer looks at first when checking anything, they are always available, and they are among the least stably rendered things there are.

So a dreamer who has been in the wrong body for a whole dream without objecting will frequently discover it by glancing down. The size is wrong, the skin is wrong, the fingers do not count correctly.

This is the reality check working while nobody is trying to use it, which is the most convincing evidence that it works at all.

Where this reads well

Direct practical value for anybody working on lucidity, and it costs nothing.

Where it is harder

The moment of realisation is described as vertiginous, though brief.

Worth asking yourself

What did I notice first? Did I count anything? What did I do after noticing?

Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
