Dreaming about a body that will not obey you
Is a body that will not work the same as being in the wrong body?
No, and separating them matters.
Being in the wrong body is an identity report: the body is not yours and works fine. A body that will not obey is the ordinary motor finding: it is your body and nothing you intend arrives.
That second one is the whole effort-without-effect family, described at length under running, hands, speech and crying. It has a plain physiological account and no identity content at all.
Dreamers routinely file both under the same heading and lose the distinction, which makes a journal much less useful. The question to ask is simply whose body it was, and it is nearly always answerable from the report.

Where it is harder
Where both occur in one dream, and they sometimes do, dreamers find it very hard to describe afterwards.

Was it my body? Did it work? Which of the two was the dream actually about?
