Dreaming a room or corridor changes size
What does it mean to dream a corridor gets longer as you walk?
One of the more distinctive experiences reported, and the reports are unusually consistent about what is wrong with it.
A corridor lengthens while being walked. A room expands. A doorway recedes. Dreamers describe this as disorienting rather than frightening, and frequently as difficult to put into words.
The distortion is of relationship rather than of measurement. Not that something is large, but that nothing is the right size relative to anything else. That is the sentence dreamers usually recognise, and it is why the experience resists description.
It occurs at the edge of sleep as well as inside dreams, and in that form it is one of the more distinctive hypnagogic experiences. It also has a documented association with migraine, which is worth knowing for anybody who gets both.
Where this reads well
Naming it usually helps, because dreamers who have had it generally assume nobody else has.
Where it is harder
The disorientation is real and the inability to describe it afterwards is its own small frustration.
Worth asking yourself
What changed relative to what? Was I falling asleep or fully in the dream? Do I get migraines?
Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
