Dreaming a mirror shows a different room
What does it mean when the mirror in a dream shows somewhere else?
Reported, and the mechanism is unusually easy to demonstrate here.
A mirror in a dream is not reflecting anything. There is no room and no optics; the dream is generating a second image and has to keep it consistent with the first. It very often does not, and the mismatch is what the dreamer notices.
The same failure runs through the whole database in other clothes: text that changes on a second reading, a clock that gives two times, a door that opens onto somewhere it did not lead a moment ago. Nothing is stored, so nothing has to agree with itself.
That makes mirrors one of the two or three most dependable reality checks in dreaming, alongside text and hands, and it is why the lucid material leans on them so heavily.
Where this reads well
Among the best lucidity triggers available, and this version does the work for you: the inconsistency is already the thing you noticed.
Where it is harder
Little, though dreamers occasionally report the second room as somewhere they do not want to be.
Worth asking yourself
What was in the reflection that was not in the room? Did I notice at the time? Did I look twice?
Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
