What does it mean to dream a mask is removed?
Reported less often, and consistent about one thing: what is underneath is rarely a face.
Dreamers describe another mask, nothing at all, or something they decline to describe. Very few report an ordinary person, which is the outcome the whole setup appears to promise.
This is ordinary dream construction rather than a revelation. Dreams generate detail on demand, and a face under a mask has never had to exist until the moment it is uncovered. Being asked to produce one at the moment of maximum attention is the condition dreams are least able to meet.
Where this reads well
Where the face beneath is somebody known and unremarkable, dreamers report relief and little else.
Where it is harder
The nothing-underneath version is among the more unsettling images people report, and it needs no interpretation beyond the mechanism.

What was underneath? Was I expecting somebody in particular? Did I remove it, or did it come away?
