The Protective Ancestor

Reports of a relative appearing during a hard period

Why do dreams of dead relatives cluster around difficult times?

One of the clearer patterns in this archive: reports cluster around bereavement, illness, and periods of strain, and thin out otherwise.

The unremarkable explanation covers it. Dream content tracks waking preoccupation, and somebody under strain is more likely to be thinking about a person they have lost. The clustering is what the continuity account predicts.

That the timing has an explanation does not make the experience less valuable, and the archive records both halves rather than choosing between them. What it will not do is present the timing as evidence of anything external.

What the reports agree on

Reporters frequently describe these as arriving exactly when needed, and the feeling of that is real regardless of the mechanism.

Where they differ, and what to be careful of

The clustering is also what makes independent evaluation difficult, because the conditions that produce the dream are the conditions that make it meaningful.

Worth recording if this was yours

What was happening in my life? Had I been thinking about them? How did I feel afterwards?

Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
