Dreaming about being in water with your clothes on
What does it mean to dream you are in water fully dressed?
A detail dreamers volunteer unprompted often enough to record, and it usually arrives as an afterthought: they were in the water, and only later notice they were dressed.
Two things are worth separating. The clothes are the dream failing to update the scene, not a choice. Dreaming maintains one state at a time and transitions are what it renders worst, so a dreamer who was walking a moment ago is in the water still dressed because nothing generated a change of clothes.
The second thing is the feeling, which is closer to the naked-in-public reports than to the water ones: a wrongness about what is being worn, in a setting that makes it visible. The difference is that hardly anybody else in these dreams notices, which is the same finding the naked entry reports and the reason it lands so oddly.
Weight and drag are rarely described, and drowning is a separate record.
Where this reads well
The transition finding is portable and explains a good deal of dream clothing generally, which dreamers find more satisfying than a symbol.
Where it is harder
Where the clothes did pull the dreamer down, it belongs with the drowning material rather than here.

When did I notice? Did anybody else? Was I heavy in the water?
