Dreaming that you are watching yourself
What does it mean to watch yourself in a dream?
Common, ordinary, and reported by a substantial number of dreamers, sometimes for a whole dream.
The dreamer sees themselves from outside, doing whatever the dream is doing, and does not find it strange at the time. That last part is the notable one: nobody in the dream objects, including the dreamer.
Dreams relocate the point of view far more readily than waking imagination does, and there is no reason to expect the camera to sit behind the eyes. It usually does. It does not have to.
This is not an out-of-body experience and the two are worth keeping apart. Those are reported from the edge of sleep, with the dreamer's real room around them and a strong sense of having left the body. This is a dream that happens to be shot from further back.
Where this reads well
Easy to log and one of the better indicators of how flexible your own dreaming is.
Where it is harder
Almost none. Dreamers rarely report distress from the viewpoint itself.

Where was I watching from? Did I find it strange at the time? Was it the whole dream?
