Dreaming you are sick but nothing comes
What does it mean to dream you cannot be sick?
Reported more often than the completed act, which surprises people, and it is the effort-without-effect family again.
Retching that produces nothing, or an urge that will not resolve however long it goes on. Dreamers describe the strain vividly and the outcome not at all, because there is not one.
Being sick is a physical act, and physical acts fail in dreams for the same reason running does: the muscles are switched off for the duration, so intention and result come apart. It fails exactly as the shout, the grip and the run fail.
Where there is real nausea, and a minority do report it on waking, the physical cause is the thing to pursue and it has nothing to do with what the dream was about.
Where this reads well
Setting it beside the other incompletions usually settles it, and dreamers recognise the pattern quickly.
Where it is harder
Unpleasant while it lasts and unusually hard to describe to anybody afterwards.
Worth asking yourself
Did anything come? Was I actually queasy on waking? What else fails to complete in my dreams?
Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
