What does it mean to dream somebody is dead but still walking around?
The hardest version to describe and the one dreamers most often say they cannot explain properly.
The person is present and behaving entirely normally. Nothing in the dream shows they are dead. The dreamer simply knows it, holds both facts at once, and finds nothing contradictory about it until they wake.
This is the clearest available demonstration of how dreams handle knowledge. Facts about a character arrive attached to them rather than inferred from anything, which is why a person can be known to be dead while visibly not being. The stranger entry describes the same machinery, and so does the partner who wears somebody else's face.
Where the person really has died this belongs with the grief material instead, and the dead-relative entry treats it properly and gently.
Where this reads well
Dreamers often find the explanation satisfying, because the thing they could not put into words turns out to be a describable feature rather than a failure of memory.
Where it is harder
The doubled knowledge is uncomfortable in a way that is hard to convey to anybody else, which leaves dreamers feeling they have not explained it.
