What does it mean to dream about being humiliated in front of people?
Shame dreams are unusually social: they nearly always require an audience, and the audience is what the dream is actually about.
The consistent and strange detail is that the onlookers rarely react. Dreamers describe doing something mortifying in front of people who carry on as though nothing had happened, and describe that indifference as part of what makes the dream uncomfortable rather than a relief.
That structure separates a shame dream from a real social fear. In waking life the dread is of the reaction; in the dream there usually is not one, and the shame arrives anyway.

The absence of reaction is genuinely reassuring once noticed, and it is the detail most dreamers have not registered.
Where it is harder
The feeling persists into the morning more reliably than most dream emotions, and dreamers often cannot say what they were ashamed of.
