Dreaming about a reunion that goes badly
What does it mean to dream about meeting someone again and it going wrong?
Less reported than the ordinary version and considerably harder. The person is there and will not speak, does not recognise the dreamer, is angry, or leaves.
Where the relationship ended badly in waking life, the dream is usually reproducing that rather than adding to it, and dreamers generally recognise this once it is pointed out. Where the relationship was good, dreamers frequently find the dream inexplicable and distressing.
The useful frame is that dreams reconstruct people from what the dreamer holds about them, including the difficult parts. A version that behaves badly is not a message from anybody, and it is not a discovery about the relationship.
Where this reads well
Some dreamers report the dream prompting a real conversation, which is a good outcome.
Where it is harder
Where the person has died, these are considerably more painful than the ordinary version and belong with the grief material.
Worth asking yourself
Did they recognise me? How did the relationship actually end? Was this how they were, or how I fear they were?
