Dreaming about music that does not exist
Can you compose music in a dream?
Reported occasionally and the more interesting case.
Composers have described taking material from dreams, and while the anecdotes are famous the phenomenon is not well studied. That is the honest position and this database will not improve on it.
What can be said is that it runs against the general finding. Dreams reproduce far more readily than they invent, and the language, dancing and skill reports all show the experience of competence being supplied without the competence itself.
So a dreamer who wakes with genuinely new music has something worth writing down immediately, because the alternative reading, that it only felt new, is the one this database would otherwise predict.
Where this reads well
A rare case where recording it immediately could actually settle something.
Where it is harder
Most of these do not survive scrutiny, which is worth knowing before getting excited.
Worth asking yourself
Could I still hum it on waking? Did I write it down? Is it definitely not something I know?
Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
