Loneliness

Dreaming about being alone somewhere natural

Why does being alone in some dreams feel peaceful?

The control case for this record, and it is reported as peace rather than loneliness.

A beach, a hillside, a wood, a field. Nobody is there and nobody is expected, and the reports are calm and frequently have no narrative at all.

The desert and island entries describe the same thing and reach the same conclusion: solitude is not what produces the feeling. Expectation is. A place that was never going to have anybody in it costs the dreamer nothing.

These are systematically under-recorded, like every pleasant dream, because nothing happens in them and nothing seems worth writing down. A journal of only the difficult dreams gives a badly distorted picture of somebody's dreaming.

Where this reads well

Restorative, and worth recording precisely because dreams like this go unlogged.

Where it is harder

None.

Worth asking yourself

Was anybody expected? Did I want company? How did it compare to an empty street?

Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
