Dreaming about your hair falling out

What does it mean to dream your hair is falling out?

The most reported version of this dream, and the one that most reliably produces a bad morning.

The reports look almost identical to teeth-loss reports: it comes away easily, there is no pain, there is often somebody present, and the dominant feeling is exposure rather than injury. That similarity is the most useful thing on this page, because teeth dreams are among the best-documented themes in the literature and the two are plainly the same family.

Where it follows real hair loss, illness or treatment, the continuity explanation is sufficient and no symbolic reading is needed.

Where this reads well

Dreamers occasionally report the sensation as calm rather than frightening, and note the dream as strange rather than distressing.

Where it is harder

The waking check in the mirror is nearly universal and is reported as the worst part.

Worth asking yourself

Did it hurt? Was anybody there? Has anything changed with my hair or my health?

Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
