Dreaming about a group of friends you cannot identify
Why can I not remember who was in my dream?
Frequently reported: a group is present, the dreamer is among friends, and afterwards they cannot say who was actually there.
The group functioned as a single presence rather than as individuals. That is efficient dream construction: a crowd of friends needs to feel like one, and feeling like one does not require anybody to be rendered.
It also explains the failure to name them. There is nothing missing from the memory. The individuals were never generated, so there is nothing to retrieve.
That is a useful thing to know before spending effort trying to recall a cast list, and it applies to the crowd and party reports as well.
