Fog

Dreaming about sounds in fog

What does it mean to hear things you cannot see in a dream?

Fog reports emphasise sound with unusual frequency, and the reason is structural: sound is what remains when sight is taken away.

Dreamers describe hearing something and being unable to locate it. Footsteps with no direction, a voice that could be anywhere, water that might be close. The failure to place it is the content.

That is worth noting because dream reports are overwhelmingly visual, and sound is generated sparingly. A dream that leans on hearing is doing something unusual, and it happens most where sight has been removed.

Where the sound becomes a voice with words in it, the voices entry is the better page, and those reports behave quite differently.

Where this reads well

One of the few places in the database where dreamers report a non-visual dream, which makes it worth recording carefully.

Where it is harder

Unlocatable sound is more unsettling than the fog itself, and it is what dreamers remember.

Worth asking yourself

What did I hear? Could I tell where from? Did I ever find out what it was?

Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
