Falling

Dreaming about hitting the ground when you fall

Do you die in real life if you hit the ground in a dream?

No. This is the most persistent myth in the whole subject, and it is worth stating plainly: people land in dreams all the time, and report it.

The reason the myth survives is a sampling problem. Most falling dreams end at the moment of impact (that is when the fear peaks and the sleeper wakes) so the dreams people remember tend to stop before landing. From that, a folk claim was built that landing is impossible or fatal. It is neither.

What people who do land report is usually anticlimax: the impact is soft, or the scene simply changes, or they get up and carry on.

Where this reads well

Landing and continuing is one of the more common ways this dream resolves, and people often describe it as a relief.

Where it is harder

Nothing here predicts anything about your body or your safety. If a dream has convinced you otherwise, that is worth naming.

Worth asking yourself

What happened after I landed? Did the dream end, or continue?

Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
