Dreaming you know somebody whose face is wrong
Why did I know who they were when they did not look like themselves?
Reported very often and one of the clearest demonstrations available of how dreaming works.
The person has the wrong face, or no face, or a face the dreamer never sees, and their identity is nonetheless beyond doubt. The contradiction is only noticed on waking, and dreamers frequently say they cannot explain how they knew.
They knew because dreams supply identity separately from appearance. Knowing who somebody is arrives as a fact attached to them rather than as a conclusion drawn from looking, which is why it survives the face being wrong.
The same machinery runs through the stranger reports, where dreamers know things about a person the dream never showed them, and through the partner who is wearing somebody else's face.

Interesting rather than distressing, and one of the better things to log if you are learning how your own dreaming works.
Where it is harder
Where the person is dead, or is somebody the dreamer misses, the wrong face makes the dream harder rather than easier.

How did I know? Did I ever see the face? Did I question it at the time?
