Alcohol, medication and dreams
The two things most likely to have changed your dreams recently, and why vivid dreams often arrive when you stop something rather than when you start.

Alcohol
Alcohol suppresses REM sleep in the first part of the night. As it is metabolised, REM rebounds, often producing a second half of the night that is fragmented, unusually vivid and frequently unpleasant.
This is why a heavy night produces both poor sleep and intense dreams, and why cutting down can increase dream vividness for a while before it settles.
Medication
A great many drug classes affect REM or dream content, including some antidepressants, some blood-pressure medications, and drugs used in Parkinson's disease. Stopping some of them produces REM rebound and a burst of vivid dreaming.
The general pattern worth knowing: suppress REM, and it comes back with interest.
REM rebound
After REM has been suppressed (by alcohol, medication or sleep deprivation) the body compensates with more REM than usual. Unusually vivid dreams after a period of poor sleep are usually this, not anything meaningful.
What to do with this
Log it. The sleep log has alcohol, caffeine and medication fields, and the pattern dashboard will show the correlation across weeks. That is a far better instrument than trying to remember whether last Tuesday was different.
