The seven-day dream recall programme

A week of small, specific changes that reliably increase how much you remember. The foundation everything else on this site is built on.

Everything else on this site depends on recall. A journal with three entries cannot show you a pattern, and the pattern dashboard is where the value is.

The good news is that recall responds quickly. Most people who start deliberately remembering report a noticeable increase within a fortnight.

The week

Day 1: Set the intention. Before sleeping, tell yourself you will remember. This sounds like nothing and is one of the better-supported factors in recall frequency.

Day 2. Do not move on waking. Stay still, eyes closed, for thirty seconds before doing anything. Movement displaces the memory almost immediately.

Day 3: Capture immediately. Journal beside the bed, or quick-entry on your phone. Not after coffee. Now.

Day 4. Write fragments. You do not need a narrative. A word, an image, a feeling. Fragments are how recall rebuilds.

Day 5. Log the blanks. Record "no recall" on nights you remember nothing. This is what makes your recall rate real rather than a guess.

Day 6, Sleep longer. Add an hour if you can. More late REM is the single biggest lever there is.

Day 7. Read the week back. Look for anything that appeared twice, and tag those entries against the database.

What to expect

Some people remember nothing for three days and then several dreams a night. Others improve gradually. Both are normal.

The failure mode is quitting on day three. Recall is a trained skill, not a talent.

Practice

Record one dream, or one "no recall" entry, every morning for seven days. A no-recall entry counts and matters: recall rate is only measurable if the blank nights are logged too.
