Dreaming about a pen that will not write

What does it mean to dream you cannot get a pen to work?

The ordinary motor finding: the action is attempted and produces nothing.

It belongs with the phone that will not dial, the lock that will not catch and the light switch that does nothing. Fine motor sequences are what dreaming renders worst, because the muscles are switched off and the intention returns no feedback.

Writing demands both things dreams do badly at once: a precise physical action, and text that has to persist. Which is why this record fails more comprehensively than almost any other.

People regularly report trying several pens, which is the never-the-same-twice mechanism producing a fresh failure each time rather than the same one.

Where this reads well

Two well-described failures stacked in one image, and both explanations are available.

Where it is harder

Small and maddening, and dreamers report waking irritated.

Worth asking yourself

What exactly failed? Did I try another? Did anything come out?

Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
