Why did the swan feel different out of the water?
On water the reports are calm and largely without narrative; on land they are markedly more tense. That split is real and consistent.
Nothing about the bird changes. Its position relative to the dreamer does, and so does its plausibility as a thing that could reach them.
This is the same finding the bat record produces: enclosure and distance shape an animal dream far more than the species does. A bat outdoors is atmospheric and indoors is frantic. A swan on water is scenery and on land is a problem.
Worth carrying to the whole file. When logging an animal dream, record where it was and how far away, because those turn out to predict the feeling better than the creature does.
