Stairs

Dreaming about stairs that never end

What does it mean to dream about a staircase with no top?

Distinct from stairs that get steeper, and dreamers describe the emotion differently: resignation rather than effort. The staircase continues past where the building should end, and the dreamer keeps going without expecting to arrive.

This is the same structure as the endless corridor, and dreamers who report both describe them in near-identical language. Dreams do not model large spaces consistently, and a repeating element is the cheapest way to produce a space with no end.

The destination is almost never described. That is the reportable finding, and it is the reason readings that concentrate on what is at the top have very little to work with.

Where this reads well

A minority report it as meditative rather than frustrating, particularly where nothing is chasing them.

Where it is harder

The resignation is what dreamers remember, and several describe it as more dispiriting than a frightening dream would be.

Worth asking yourself

Did I expect to arrive? Was I going up or down? Was anything following me?

Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
