A building of stairs

Dreaming that going up takes you down

What does it mean to dream the stairs do not go where they should?

Reported often and accepted at the time without objection, which is the part worth recording.

The dreamer climbs and arrives below where they started, or descends and comes out higher. Nothing in the dream registers a problem, and the contradiction only becomes one on waking.

Levels are labels rather than positions. A dream asserts which floor you are on in the same way it asserts who somebody is, and there is no accounting system underneath to catch the inconsistency.

That is the same machinery as the place that is two places and the person with the wrong face. Nothing is being tracked, so nothing can fail to add up.

Where this reads well

A strong dream sign, and unusual in that the impossibility is structural rather than visual.

Where it is harder

Dreamers describe a specific disorientation that lingers briefly after waking.

Worth asking yourself

Which way was I going? Where did I arrive? Did I question it at the time?

Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
