Why is snow so quiet in dreams?
The most consistently reported feature of snow dreams, and dreamers mention it unprompted: a snowed landscape in a dream is soundless.
Dreamers describe the quiet first and the cold rarely, which is the opposite of how anybody would describe real snow. That inversion is the interesting finding here.
Part of it is that dreams reproduce temperature poorly and generate sound sparingly, so a snowy scene loses the cold and keeps a silence that was mostly there already. Part of it is that silence in a dream is noticed, because dreams are rarely quiet.
The reports are calm rather than eerie. Dreamers describe stillness and frequently describe not wanting to move through it.
Where this reads well
Among the more peaceful settings people report, and one of the few dreams described as beautiful without qualification.
Where it is harder
A minority find the silence unnerving, and those reports sit closer to the empty-place material.

Was there any sound at all? Was I cold? Did I move, or stay still?
