What does it mean to dream about losing a ring?
Almost every ring dream is this one. The ring is noticed because it is gone, and the dreamer usually cannot say when it went.
The absence of a moment of loss is the reportable feature. There is rarely a slip, a snag or a drain. It has already happened, which puts these closer to the forgotten-baby structure than to ordinary losing-an-object dreams, where dreamers can normally describe the moment.
Where it is a wedding or engagement ring, dreamers commonly wake anxious about the relationship. That association is theirs to examine and it is not a general rule. The dream is not evidence about a partner.

Finding it again is reported, and the relief is described as disproportionate, more so than the loss was distressing.
Where it is harder
The guilt is out of proportion to a lost object, which is the clue that the object is not the subject.
