Dreaming about a lot of rats
What does it mean to dream about many rats at once?
Number is the dominant feature of rat reports, and dreamers rarely describe one. Where a dream begins with a single animal it usually does not stay that way, and the multiplication itself is often what dreamers remember most clearly.
The emotion is disgust rather than fear, which is the thing that separates rats from every predator in the database. A wolf is frightening. A quantity of rats is revolting, and revulsion behaves differently: it does not produce flight, it produces recoil and a wish to be somewhere else.
Read the number rather than the animal. What dreamers describe is something that has got past a threshold and is now beyond counting, which is a different problem from something dangerous.
Where this reads well
Rare, and usually connected to the dreamer having a real interest in the animals. People who keep rats report them without the disgust.
Where it is harder
The multiplication is what persists. Dreamers describe it as the detail that stayed with them, more than anything the rats did.

How many, roughly? Did the number grow? Was I disgusted or afraid, and are those different for me?
