Two records together

Money and a shop

A transaction that will not complete, and the reason is not about money. Numbers are one of the two things dreaming cannot hold still.

What the combination adds

Shop dreams almost never end in a purchase, and the failure clusters at the till.

Numbers fail exactly as text does. A total that will not settle, notes that turn out to be something else, a card that does nothing, a price different on a second look. Above about four, quantity is not tracked at all, so a figure has to be regenerated each time it is read and comes back changed.

That is why the money entry and the shop entry keep arriving at the same place from different directions: one is about the amount, the other about the transaction, and neither can complete because the arithmetic underneath was never held.

The reportable detail is what dreamers actually feel. They describe the social exposure of holding up a queue, not anxiety about money. Somebody is waiting, and that is the content.

Where a real financial worry exists these track it, and that is the least mysterious reading available and usually the right one.

The two records

Each is a full entry in its own right, and each covers ground this page does not.

  • Money

Money dreams are extremely common and track waking financial concern more reliably than they track anything symbolic. Finding it and losing it are reported about equally, and both usually arrive during periods when money is already on the dreamer's mind.

  • Shop

Shops in dreams are transaction dreams, and the transaction almost never completes. Dreamers describe not finding the thing, not being able to pay, or reaching the till and the situation dissolving.

Worth asking

Did the amount stay the same? Was somebody waiting? Is money a worry at the moment?
