Dreaming you cannot smell anything
What does it mean to dream your sense of smell is gone?
Rarely reported, and worth its own scenario mainly to say why.
An absence cannot be noticed where the sense was barely present to begin with. Dreams generate smell so sparingly that most dreams are already without it, so there is nothing to miss.
That is a useful piece of reasoning to carry elsewhere. Dreamers do not report an absence of taste either, or of temperature, because those are the ordinary state of a dream.
Where somebody has genuinely lost their sense of smell awake, reports do change, which is the continuity account predicting an absence rather than a presence.
