Dreaming about a tidal wave or approaching disaster
What does it mean to dream about a huge wave or disaster coming?
Something enormous is coming and there is nowhere far enough to go. The wave version is the most reported, but earthquakes, fires and skies going wrong follow the same shape.
The defining feature is scale relative to you: this is not a threat you could fight or hide from, which puts it in a different class from being chased. Many reports describe watching rather than running, sometimes with a strange calm.
The threat-simulation account of dreaming predicts exactly this kind of content. That account is a hypothesis with supporting evidence, not a settled explanation, and no site should tell you which one your dream was doing.
Where this reads well
A large share of reports include surviving it, or the wave stopping short. People often forget that part when retelling it.
Where it is harder
A disaster dream is not a warning about a real event. If it recurs during a stressful period, the sleep log will tell you more than any reading.
Worth asking yourself
Did I run, or watch? Was anyone else with me? What happened at the moment it reached me?
Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
