Dreaming you left something in the old house
What does it mean to dream you forgot something when you moved?
A distinct third pattern, and dreamers frequently name a specific object or a room they did not empty.
The specificity separates it from the forgetting reports, where the certainty has nothing attached. Here the dreamer knows exactly what was left, and knows they cannot go back for it.
The going-back is the content. Reports either end with the dreamer unable to return, or with a return that finds the house already occupied, already changed, or no longer accessible.
Where a real move is behind the dreamer, particularly one they did not choose, these follow it, sometimes for years afterwards.

Where it is harder
Where the old house belonged to a period the dreamer misses, these are quietly sad and can recur for a long time.
