Dreaming about insects you cannot identify
Why can I never tell what kind of insect it was?
Asked less often than it should be, because it is one of the most consistent features of these reports: dreamers rarely name a species with confidence, and frequently report that the insects were not quite anything.
This is ordinary dream construction rather than a detail with meaning. Dreams generate detail on demand and only to the depth being attended to, and an insect in a swarm is never attended to individually. The dream has no reason to decide what it is, so it does not.
The practical consequence is for interpretation rather than for the dream. Any reading that depends on the species, and the traditions are full of them, is reading a detail the dream did not supply.
Where this reads well
Knowing this removes a small frustration dreamers often have about their own recall.
Where it is harder
None. It is a feature of dreaming rather than a problem with the dream.
Worth asking yourself
Could I name what they were? Did it matter inside the dream? Was I close enough to see one?
Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
