Dreaming about finding extra rooms in a house
What does it mean to dream your house has rooms you have never seen?
One of the most reported dreams in this whole database, and among the small number people describe as thrilling rather than unsettling.
The dreamer opens a door in a house they know and finds more house: a wing, a floor, a corridor of rooms nobody has used. Nothing in the dream objects, and the impossibility is noticed only on waking.
Dreams do not hold a floor plan and check new space against it. A room is produced when somebody walks into it, and there is nothing requiring that room to fit inside the building it is supposedly in.
The reports are consistently positive, which distinguishes this from almost everything else in the uncanny material. The attic with extra rooms, the garden past the fence, the cave with a chamber in it and the shed that is bigger inside are the same finding in different settings, and extra space in dreams is nearly always a good discovery.
Where this reads well
Frequently described with real delight, and one of the better recurring dreams to have. Dreamers who keep a journal can map it, since the same extra rooms often come back.
Where it is harder
Almost none, though a minority report the new rooms as derelict or occupied, and those move towards the neglected-house material instead.
