Dreaming about hands with too many fingers
Why do my hands look wrong in dreams?
Six fingers, seven, fingers that will not stay countable, a hand that belongs to somebody else. Dreamers report the wrongness clearly and frequently report counting twice and getting a different answer.
There is a good reason it is hands. Dreams render only what attention falls on, and a hand held up for inspection is a demand for detail that has to be produced on the spot. It gets produced differently each time you look, which is exactly what dreamers describe.
This is why looking at your hands is the oldest reality check there is. It works for the same reason reading does not: the dream cannot hold the detail steady across two glances. Anybody trying to notice they are dreaming is pointed at hands and at text before anything else.
Nothing is wrong with your hands. The instability is the finding.
Where this reads well
The most immediately useful entry in this record. Dreamers who log it often report it as the thing that later made them realise they were asleep.
Where it is harder
Genuinely unpleasant at the time. Dreamers describe the wrong hand as one of the more disturbing images they have had, out of proportion to it being a hand.
Worth asking yourself
Did I count them? Did the number change? Whose hands did they look like?
Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
