Forgetting something

Dreaming you left something behind

What does it mean to dream you left something somewhere?

The departure version, and it usually has a journey attached: a station, a car pulling away, a house being left, a bag that should have been packed.

It sits between the being-late reports and the suitcase reports and shares the machinery of both. Something required is missing, the departure will not wait, and going back is either impossible or costs the departure.

Unlike the first version, this one often does name the object, and dreamers report the naming as no help at all. Knowing what it was does not let them retrieve it.

Where a real departure is coming up, a move, a trip, somebody leaving, these track it closely and dreamers can normally date them.

Where this reads well

Easy to connect to something real, which makes it one of the more useful in this record to journal.

Where it is harder

The impossibility of going back is the durable part, and it is what the late dreams are made of too.

Worth asking yourself

What had I left? Could I have gone back? Is something departing in my life at the moment?

Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
