Following somebody

Dreaming you lose sight of somebody you were following

What does it mean to lose somebody in a dream?

Reported often, and it moves the dream into the getting-lost group, where it is described in the same terms.

The figure turns a corner, is absorbed into a crowd, or is simply gone, and the dreamer is left somewhere they were not paying attention to because they were following.

That last detail is the useful one. Dreamers report having no idea where they are, precisely because navigation had been delegated. The place was never attended to, so it was never generated, and there is nothing to orient by.

Where the person lost is somebody the dreamer is responsible for, particularly a child, the reports change sharply and belong with the saving-someone material.

Where this reads well

A clean illustration of attention generating a setting, which dreamers can usually confirm in their own reports.

Where it is harder

Where it is a child, these are among the most distressing dreams parents report.

Worth asking yourself

Where was I when I lost them? Had I been looking at anything else? Who was it?

Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
