Flood

Dreaming that water is rising without seeing it rise

Why do I know the water is higher without watching it?

A precise and easily missed feature: rising is felt rather than watched.

Dreamers report knowing it is higher rather than seeing it get higher. The level was there, now it is here, and the transition was never rendered.

Dreams give states, not transitions. That is one of the more useful generalisations in this database and it explains a great deal elsewhere: the arrival with no journey, the death already learned, the infidelity already known. Change is asserted rather than shown.

Once you know to look for it you find it in most of your own dreams, which makes this one of the better scenarios here for anybody keeping a serious journal.

Where this reads well

A genuinely portable observation. It applies far beyond floods and it costs nothing to start noticing.

Where it is harder

Not knowing how fast it is coming is worse than watching it, and dreamers say so.

Worth asking yourself

Did I watch it rise, or just know? Where else in the dream did something change without changing?

Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
