Waking up still frightened without remembering why
Why do you wake up scared with no memory of the dream?
The feeling outlasts the content. You wake with a racing heart and nothing to attribute it to, and within minutes even the sense of a dream is gone.
Emotional tone survives longer than narrative because they are stored differently. The affect persists after the imagery that carried it has failed to consolidate.
Recording it is still worth doing. A run of these tells you something about a period even when no individual night can be described.
Where this reads well
A "no recall, woke afraid" entry is a real data point, and the pattern dashboard can use it. Do not skip logging it because there is no story.
Where it is harder
Frequent frightened waking with no recall is worth noting alongside the sleep log: alcohol, medication changes and short nights all show up this way.
Worth asking yourself
How long did the feeling last? Is anything at all left: a place, a colour, a person?
Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
