Dreaming about vision that will not focus
What does it mean to dream you cannot focus your eyes?
Separate from eyes that will not open, and much less alarming to dreamers, which is why it is asked about less and reported just as often. The dreamer can see, but nothing sharpens: text will not hold still, faces will not resolve, or the harder they look the worse it gets.
There is a good structural explanation and it is not a disappointment. Dreams generate detail on demand rather than in advance, and text and faces are the two things that require the most detail to be convincing. A dream asked to hold either steady under scrutiny tends to fail, and the failure is experienced as blurring.
This is why unreadable text is one of the more reliable reality checks. Looking away and back at writing usually changes it, and that instability is the same phenomenon described from the other direction.
Where this reads well
Genuinely useful. Dreamers learning to recognise dreams report text and faces as the two most dependable signs.
Where it is harder
Where the dreamer is straining to read something urgent, reports converge with the effort-without-effect family and are frustrating rather than frightening.
Worth asking yourself
Was I trying to read something? Did looking away and back change it? Were faces affected too?
Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
