Dust

Dreaming about a room covered in dust

What does it mean to dream about dust?

Dust is how a dream says time has passed, and dreamers read it that way instantly.

They describe a dusty room and describe knowing how long it has been that way, without anything establishing it. Months. Years. Since somebody left.

That is the unearned certainty this file is built on, doing something useful for once: rather than supplying a threat or a guilt with nothing underneath, it supplies elapsed time, which is exactly what the image is for.

It is efficient. A dream that needs a place to have been abandoned does not have to show the abandoning. It puts dust down and the dreamer supplies the rest.

Where this reads well

A clean example of a dream image doing narrative work with almost nothing, and easy to notice.

Where it is harder

Mild. These are reported as melancholy rather than frightening.

Worth asking yourself

How long did I think it had been? What told me that? Whose room was it?

Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
