Doll

Dreaming about a doll that seems to be watching

Why are dolls frightening in dreams?

A doll is a face that does not behave like a face, and that is the whole of it.

The reported problem is almost always the eyes. Dreamers describe a doll that is looking, or that was looking a moment ago, and the uncertainty is the content. Nothing happens and nothing needs to.

That places these with the mask and faceless-person material rather than with objects. What produces dread in all three is a face that cannot be read: present, addressed to you, and carrying no information about intent.

Mannequins and puppets are reported in the same register, and dreamers frequently use identical words for all three, which is a good sign they are one phenomenon.

Where this reads well

Sorting it with the face material explains a fear that dreamers find hard to justify to anybody.

Where it is harder

Disproportionate and durable, and dreamers are frequently embarrassed to report it.

Worth asking yourself

Were the eyes the problem? Did anything actually happen? Did I look away and back?

Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
