Dreaming about something far away in a desert
What does it mean to dream about a distant figure you cannot reach?
A distinctive subgroup: a single object or figure in the distance, which the dreamer moves towards and does not reach.
The emptiness makes the one feature enormously salient. In a furnished setting it would be scenery; here it is the whole dream, and dreamers report being unable to look away from it.
Non-arrival is the norm, exactly as it is for the receding summit, the far bank and the crowd that cannot be crossed. What differs is that there is nothing else to attend to, so the failure is unusually pure.
Dreamers rarely report reaching it, and where they do the thing is usually not what it appeared to be.
Where this reads well
A clean case of non-arrival with all the distractions stripped out.
Where it is harder
Sustained and futile, and dreamers report these as tiring.
Worth asking yourself
What was it? Did I get any closer? Could I have looked away?
Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
