Why do I dream about colleagues from years ago?
Reported for years, in the same way old teachers do.
That pairing is the finding. The office entry describes returning to a job left a decade ago and finding it unremarkable; the teacher entry describes adults naming specific teachers forty years on.
Old settings and the people who belonged to them recur far out of proportion to how much anybody thinks about them. Whatever governs what dreams reuse, recency is plainly not it, which complicates the availability finding in the previous scenario rather than contradicting it.
Both are true: current exposure predicts who appears now, and old material persists indefinitely alongside it.

Holding both findings at once is more accurate than either alone, and dreamers can see both in their own records.
