Dreaming about a crack spreading
What does it mean to dream a crack is growing?
One of the few things dreams reliably show growing, and that is unusual enough to be the point of this record.
Most change in dreams arrives as a completed state. The flood is higher without having risen. The doll has moved without moving. The person is dead without having died. Dreams give states, not transitions.
A spreading crack is a transition being watched, in real time, and dreamers report it in those terms.
Why this and not other changes is not settled. A crack may be a good fit because it extends without anything having to move or be redrawn: the line simply gets longer, which is about the cheapest change a dream could render.
