Flying in Islamic dream interpretation

Flight is read as travel, elevation and ambition, and the manuals ask where the dreamer was going.

What this page is

What follows describes readings recorded in this tradition, with the tradition's own qualifications attached. It is not a claim that a dream about any of these things means anything, and it is not religious guidance.

Flying is associated with a journey, with rising in station, and in some readings with the soul. The direction and destination carry the interpretation: flying towards a known place is read differently from flying without one.

Flying too high, or beyond sight of the ground, is read cautiously in most compilations, on the same logic that governs the fire readings: the same act in measure and in excess are two different images.

Flying with wings and flying without them are distinguished in several manuals, which is characteristic of how finely the tradition divides its material.

What is actually recorded about dreaming of flying

Flying is the most positively reported dream experience there is, and the most strongly associated with lucidity. Many people who realise they are dreaming try to fly, and many who fly realise they are dreaming.
